Need a definitive answer without all the back-and-forth? Then you need the polls app in Google Chat.

Google Workspace announced this week that you can now easily create polls within any Chat conversation to get instant feedback on anything from meeting times, design options and project updates to the best spot for the next team lunch.

It’ll be available to all Google Workspace customers that have enabled Chat apps in their domain, Workspace Individual Subscribers and users with personal Google accounts.

• Effortless creation: Setting up a poll is as easy as pie. Simply ask your question and let the votes roll in.
• Instant results: See responses in real-time, giving you a clear picture of where your team stands.
• Flexible options: Choose between multiple choice or open-ended questions, and even make your polls anonymous for honest feedback.

Here’s an actual example: One of our team was working on a design for an email banner we wanted to put into our email signatures. He popped the design into the chat followed by a poll asking us for a “yay or nay”. Within minutes he had his answer. After that, he was able to move forward with the rest of the task. Nice and easy.

And sure, if we had all voted “nay”, then we all would have had a further conversation discussing the revisions needed, but the poll helped us see what everyone thought about the 1st draft right away, so we didn’t waste time with a long chat.

On the admin side:

• The Poll app must be allowlisted by Admins if your Marketplace user install setting is configured to “Allow users to install and run allowlisted apps from the Marketplace.”
• Admins can install the Polls App for your whole team right from the Google Workspace Marketplace.

For the end users:

• Simply choose a chat or a space and type “/poll” into the text box. A list of options should pop up where you will be able to choose the Poll App.

Some Poll questions about food, drinks, or meeting locations may have special icons.
