“So Nigel, what do you do?”
I have been networking, quite a bit in fact, mostly through the Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce. I’m really impressed with their networking events and the supportive approach of the Chamber team. The recent ‘Behind the Scenes’ trip to the Ridgeview winery was a great example. A skilful blend of social, informational and inspirational elements every bit as good as the blending of grape varieties into Ridgeview’s iconic range of sparkling wines. I recommend the winery tour as much for the compelling story of strategic vision and tenacity behind the Ridgeview business as for the tasting session afterwards.
So, naturally, I have had this question dozens of times now: “So Nigel, what do you do?”
At first I found it difficult to come up with a concise reply that actually provided any insight for the person asking the question. But as time has gone on I have got better at explaining what my new venture is about. For example;
“I help leaders of organisations to develop strategies to deliver their goals
and to make good decisions to get them there.”
I realised early on that I would need a web-site dedicated to my new business. Partly because every business seems to have one and partly because it is such a great way to communicate clearly and concisely the expanded version of this one sentence narrative.
So here it is – launched today – my new web-site: www.asd-ltd.co.uk
I hope that you like the design as much as I do. Credit for this goes to the team at Puree Design under Martine’s leadership who were both insightful and patient in teasing out my objectives and creatively interpreting them in the web-site medium. I particularly like the icon as they successfully captured much of the essence behind my work (e.g. agile, iterations, the alchemy of adding value etc) in a succinct graphic.
I’m also looking forward to getting back into the blogging habit with a weekly blog going out on Tuesday mornings. I will be unpacking what Agile Strategy Design and Business Decision Design look like in practice with case study material as well as ideas about tools and approaches. I’m told I have the technology to post the web-site blogs out through my LinkedIn site so you can find them in either place.
My primary intention with the web-site is to be clear, concise and compelling – please do let me know what you think.
