Is your business brave enough to embrace this opportunity?
Perhaps you will you be 'embracing the unknown' by attending your first Brighton Summit this year? Chamber member and Sussex video producer Laura Evans talks about her journey into newness when she made her K1 debut in the cage recently, plus tells you about a fantastic upcoming opportunity for any local business who considers themselves dynamic, innovative and brave enough…
You may remember 2 years ago when I stepped into the ring to box as part of an Ultra White Collar Boxing event, a drive that aims to raise money for Cancer Research by taking the inexperienced, training them for 8 weeks and then pairing them to box an equally hungry opponent on a glamorous night in front of hundreds of baying spectators.
It was quite the experience. I had many fears to overcome to make that first step into the ring and the course saw many people drop out when they realised what they were letting themselves in for!
Since then, I have trained in Muay Thai and K1 fighting and this year again I made another debut, stepping into the cage to fight K1. When I accepted the fight, I did not know quite what to expect but I knew it would be an exciting opportunity even if it was a lot of hard work; a lot like when I took the plunge to become a freelance independent video producer! All business owners can understand that foray into the deep unknown.
You know that thrill of competing to win a piece of business, the joy of working hard on a project well done. In a way, fighting is a lot like running a business.
So in early June I stepped into the cage at Lion Fighting Championship in Rochester after many months of training and dieting on my “fight camp.”
Although I did not come away with the win on this occasion, it was a life affirming experience and I fought well. I felt so lucky and proud to be able to represent my gym Kenshiro. Only those that work the hardest and are prepared to make sacrifices are allowed that honour. As the cage door shuts behind you and you face up to your avid opponent, hoping that months of physical and mental preparation will come together and deliver a exciting performance for the crowd, you learn a lot about who you truly are and your potential.
I have seen competitors who have lost the match before they have even started, giving up when they receive heavy blows or start to tire. Even the best can receive a dangerous strike that ends their hopes and the match. Yet it is the pure thrill of living on the edge like this that drives me to get back into the cage as soon as possible.
It’s no surprise then that 3 weeks later I was fighting once again, filling in on short notice after a drop out at Fusion at the swanky Epsom Downs Racecourse. Here I got a draw.
On October 7th I will fight in my beloved home town of Brighton at Victory Fights and this time I am after the win. Will you come along and support me on the night? Pop me an email if you want tickets.
Or perhaps you want to align your business with this exciting night who are still looking for sponsors. You can expect high community engagement and sponsors receive lots of mentions across the brands popular social media channels and on all associated branding in the run up to and on the night (and on video content afterwards). You will even get some VIP tickets too.
MMA is the world’s fastest growing sport and this opportunity would fit will with any company who is a forward thinker in their field and wants to boost their presence across Sussex and the South.
