Workshops for social enterprises and charities
As part of our Ride the Wave programmwe we have two further free workshops coming for social enterprises and charities.
The sector is held in high regard in the city and it is one that the Council are keen to support through the Ride the Wave programme. There are estimated to be as many as 1600 charities and social enterprises in the city (a figure that is not confirmed as yet). The first Ride the Wave workshop for the sector on ‘Starting a social enterprise’ was fully booked, showing the level of interest in running this type of organisation.
‘Money matters for social enterprises and charities’ is on 26th October and ‘Bidding smart on contracts’ is on 15th November. These two topics were selected after discussion with the CVSF (Community and Voluntary Sector Forum) and other sector representatives as to what would be most useful, what were the burning issues, and what social enterprises and charities needed help with.
Caroline Lucas, MP for Brighton Pavilion, said:
“Social enterprises are incredibly important to the city’s local economy and play an influential role in promoting human and ecological wellbeing – working for the good of society rather than simply for profit. We need these organisations more than ever, so I’m delighted to see Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce offering this level of support to our entrepreneurs. Whether you’re just getting started with a new organisation or seeking to strengthen an existing one, the Ride the Wave workshops are a great opportunity to network, pick up new ideas and learn how to make your enterprise a success.”
Emma Daniel, Policy and Research Manager at CVSF (Community and Voluntary Sector Forum) said:
“CVSF is really excited to support the Chamber of Commerce’s Ride the Wave programme. Enterprising charities and the small business sector need support to achieve both social and economic vibrancy in Brighton and Hove. Our members have common needs and can share experience on winning contracts, effective pricing and business development. This programme makes the best use of the talent and knowledge our city holds to enable success in a difficult climate.”
