Why bother being a creative organisation?
Ahead of their Bite-sized Learning session on The Creative Organisation on 11 November, Creativity Works have written a blog for us on creative organisations.
‘There is no doubt that creativity is the most important human resource of all. Without creativity there would be no progress, and we would be forever repeating the same patterns.’ Edward de Bono
The benefits of a creative approach:
- Increased confidence, enjoyment, self-expression, motivation.
- Develops creative and critical thinking skills.
- Benefits people’s mental and emotional well-being.
- Enables you to express yourself, to identify, clarify and make sense of problems.
- Boosts confidence
- Connects you to your peers and environment
- Creates curiosity
- Fosters an ethos of experimentation and innovation
- Focussing on a process rather than an end result makes the mind more playful.
- Creativity pushes people out of their comfort zone; this means you stimulate people, enable them to take risks, develop resilience and confidence
Research into creative learning from Education Scotland showed that using creative, interactive processes to facilitate learning meant people were:
- More interested in discovering things for themselves
- More open to new ideas and challenges
- More able to solve problems
- Worked well with others
- Become more effective learners
- Have greater ownership over their development
Creative learning and development approaches are not peculiar to education but can be used within small and large organisation to achieve the same results.
