Who is standing for the Chamber Board elections?
This year Carol Lewis will be standing for President of Brighton Chamber, and we’ll be thanking Julia Chanteray who has been President for the last five years. Here’s what some of our nominated Chamber Board members are saying about the upcoming elections at the AGM on Tuesday 2nd June.
Carol Lewis
Carol is one of the founding directors of Bainbridge Lewis accountants. She joined the Chamber five years ago when she first set up the business and has been volunteering in various roles over the years from organising the finances to being one of the Vice Presidents.
“The Chamber was such a great help when we first set up the business, I was really keen to get involved and volunteer. Whether I’ve been doing the announcements at breakfast, drafting the budgets or attending the monthly board meetings I’ve found volunteering to be very rewarding. I believe we have a great team of staff and volunteers at the Chamber and I’m proud to part of the best networking organisation in Brighton!”
Julia Chanteray
Julia Chanteray has been Chamber President for the last 5 years, and was Vice President before that. Since Julia has been President, Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce has gone from strength to strength, with more members, more events than ever before.
When she's not being Chamber President, Julia runs her business consultancy, The Joy of Business, helping dozens of businesses in the city with strategy, marketing, finance and systems. Julia regularly speaks and writes about the issues faced by small businesses, and appears regularly on TV and radio.
“I’m very proud of what we’ve been able to achieve at Brighton Chamber, and now is a good time to hand over the reins to Carol Lewis as President. Carol will be able to develop the Chamber even further. I still want to be involved with the Chamber, so would like to be Vice President. This allows me to concentrate on the Chamber’s campaigning work on behalf of the business community, making Brighton and Hove the best possible place to do business.”
Julie Roff
Julie is the founder and managing director of ABC Translations, who have been providing translation, interpretation and foreign-language writing services for law firms, patent agents and commercial companies since 1997.
“I studied languages at school and college, but somehow ended up working in building societies and estate agencies as a financial adviser for a number of years. I eventually found my way back into languages, working for a local translation agency, which led to the founding of ABC Translations some 18 years ago (where the financial background helped enormously with the business plan!) I joined the Chamber looking to meet new clients, but my membership has ended up being about so much more. Not only have I gained new customers and some brilliant new suppliers, I’ve found the Chamber to be a great source of up-to-date information about what’s happening in the local business community. Volunteering at the Chamber is a fantastic way to become more integrated into that community, and to help make sure that local business has a voice in local policy.”
Franki Martelly
“I originally joined the Chamber to meet potential new clients and suppliers however, after discovering how rewarding being a volunteer can be, it has become much more to me. As a graphic designer I have been able to collaborate with some very talented people on some really interesting projects for the Chamber, through which I have developed several long-standing business relationships. I really believe in the Chamber - it's by far the most welcoming and forward-thinking business support organisation I've ever been a part of and since I’ve become a Director, I also enjoy helping to develop its future.”
