What’s so special about Brighton?
Brighton has long been a popular tourist destination on the South coast and is known by many as London-By-The Sea. Whilst tourism is a major part of the local economy, Brighton is fast becoming one of the UK’s leading hubs for digital and technology based start-ups with the highest number of start-ups per capita outside of London.
So what’s so special about Brighton?
Last year a deal for £170m of investment in the Greater Brighton area was announced with the intention of making Brighton a major centre for creative and digital businesses dubbed ‘Silicon Beach’. This was made up of £6.7m from central government, £9.8m from local public sector and £155m of private investment as part of the Greater Brighton City Deal.
With 2 universities, the University of Brighton and the University of Sussex – there are over 35k students in the City which not only provides a diverse talent pool for employers but also a number of entrepreneurs in the making.
There are a number of organisations operating in Brighton that create a valuable support network for start-ups such as Wired Sussex and the Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce as well as various networking events such as Brighton Business Curry Club and Juice Breakfast.
