Vodafone: Using technology and the digital to create a 'Better Ways of Working' culture
We hosted an event sponsored by Vodafone as part of the Brighton Digital Festival discussing 'The Future of the Workplace'. In connection with this, Vodafone have written a blog on how they are making the most of digital technology to produce a 'Better Ways of Working' culture for their employees.
Vodafone’s HQ in Newbury isn’t the first choice of location for rising stars in Digital. We find a lot of our digital talent tends to migrate to the city – often London – and much like the challenges faced by businesses in Brighton, tempting them out to the suburbs can be a struggle.
We need to work hard to encourage people to consider us as a digital workplace and think creatively about the way we do it. We’re working to embed digital skills in our home-grown teams as well, looking at opportunities for development across the business as well as attracting new talent.
Our Millennial generation no longer see work as 9-5 in a static office environment. They want flexibility in location and hours and the chance to drive change and make a difference in their workplace.
Our Better Ways of Working culture enables us to use our network and technology to connect our employees anytime anywhere and offer a greater degree of flexibility. They can be sat with an agency in the heart of London or with our contact centres understanding the end to end customer experience– and still be connected to a major project back in HQ.
We’ve got a big digital team and plenty of opportunities. UX, UI, design, web development, content creation, blogging, social media and copy is all developed in-house and we work closely with our agencies to develop new distal strategies for customers.
We’ve got both the career progression and the lifestyle many people are after. It’s by making the most of advancements in our network and technology, and offering flexibility in the workplace, that we can all compete with the best employers in the big cities in attracting new digital talent.
