Support the regeneration of Circus Street old market
Today's blog comes from Paula Seager, Managing Director, Natural PR Ltd a keen supporter of the Circus Street development.
As a keen advocate of economic growth in Brighton & Hove, and local business owner, I wanted to ask for your support for a project that I truly believe will be fantastic for the city.
The regeneration of the Circus Street old market area of Brighton, next to the University of Brighton’s art faculty building, (set back from Grand Parade), will create over 600 jobs and attract £200m spend in the city, as well as kick start regeneration of the wider area.
It will deliver two landmark public buildings: The Dance Space, a new home for South East Dance, including performance space and community dance facilities to help bring dance opportunities to everyone in the city; and a stunning new library and teaching building for the University of Brighton.
The scheme will include a state of the art, managed halls of residence for up to 486 University of Brighton students, right next to the art faculty, plus 142 sustainable new homes, which the city is in desperate need of.
As if that isn’t enough, it also includes a modern office building with over 3,000sqm of flexible office space, to help growing creative and digital businesses remain and flourish in the city. New workshop units will also be on offer as well as retail units for independent shops and cafes; and new green spaces on the site will include a new central square with a central outdoor performance and events space which we can all use and enjoy.
The project is a public private partnership led by Cathedral Group with funding partner McLaren, including South East Dance, Brighton & Hove City Council and the University of Brighton.
I am asking you to spend a few minutes of your precious time to make your views known and support the planning application for Circus Street. We all know that people in support of such schemes often don't make their voices heard – this is your chance to change that.
The information below provides easy steps for you to help make this scheme a reality and bring back to life a derelict site with genuine community, cultural and economic benefits for our city.
