Solicitors offer free legal help for women and employers on pregnancy and maternity rights at work
Sussex Business Award winner Martin Searle Solicitors is launching a free telephone advice service for employers and employees concerned about the workplace rights of pregnant women and women on maternity leave.
Throughout February 2011 expert employment law solicitors will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm to 7pm to offer advice on all issues surrounding maternity and pregnancy rights at work – including new rights on additional paternity leave.
Director of Martin Searle Solicitors Fiona Martin says: “Despite previous years’ high profile campaigns around the issues, pregnancy and maternity discrimination continue to be a major problem andblight the careers of many women.
“While some employers discriminate in the belief they will get away with it, others just don’t understand the law sufficiently to ensure the rights of women are fully met, for instance with respect to health and safety, maternity pay and leave, flexible work and maternity returners’ rights to return to work.”
As well as providing up to 30 minutes' free telephone advice to callers, Martin Searle Solicitors is also delivering two seminars for employers:
All You Need To Know About Managing Pregnancy and Maternity Leave in the Workplace hosted by The Business Community Partnership is in Brighton on Wednesday 2nd February from 10am-12.30pm
Employment Law Update session on Shared Maternity and Paternity Leave hosted by Brighton’s HR Digital Media Group and sponsored by Martin Searle Solicitors is on 10th February.
The firm has also produced a series of factsheets for employers and employees covering basic pregnancy and maternity rights at work well as more challenging areas such as avoiding pregnancy discrimination in a redundancy process. There are also online quizzes HR managers can use to test their knowledge of the law.
