Smart Business, Eco style – another first for Brighton
Brighton is hosting another first – the Eco Technology Show 2012 and Smart Business Conference 2012 – and the first large-scale showcase event at the AMEX Stadium on 15th-16th June.
One of the people responsible for bringing this epic event to our city is the delightfully gregarious Nicola Gunstone.
Along with business partners Michael Yeoman of South Downs Solar, and Billy Mauseth of Regis Events, Nicola created the event inspired by the plethora of technology, innovation and experts available, which presented a big opportunity everyone to come together to be inspired, learn and share.
Already successful judging by the number of tickets sold and the level of sponsors, the event is supported by Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce, Brighton and Hove City Council, City Council, Southern Water, Heart Radio, Eco Building Magazine and the Hyde Group, to mention but a few, and Nicola says bringing the event to Brighton was a no-brainer – we have the only Green council, the greenest stadium in Europe and the greenest city in the UK.
The Eco Technology Show has over 100 exhibitors across different zones including eco-build, design, energy, transport, homes, lifestyle and education. It’s designed to create a space where businesses and the public can come together to be inspired by new technologies, green businesses and knowledge, and connect with independent experts as well as learn new practical skills and source products.
On Day 1, there’s the first ever Smart Business Conference aimed at the public and private sectors, hosted by Green Party MP Caroline Lucas, Greg Barker MP, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, and Norman Baker MP, Under Secretary of State for Transport. With a stunning array of guest speakers, addressing the latest strategies and tools to support sustainable growth within government and business, it’s an absolute must for anyone even remotely connected or interested in the subject matter. There are already 100 delegates booked in, with limited space now available at £99 + VAT per ticket.
Nicola herself is Sussex-born and bred, and has been truly inspired by the people she’s met and worked with while organising the event. When not tied to her desk, she loves cooking and singing (although not necessarily at the same time) and describes herself as ‘passionate about food’. Her key to success is ‘always to be true to yourself’.
Nicola firmly believes the event will further raise the profile of Brighton & Hove as the greenest city in the UK, showcasing award-winning technology and products, many of which have been developed here. She’s particularly proud of the show’s two days of free workshops and the Conference’s live open Q&A session with Greg Barker on the Green Deal. Delegates can ask questions on the latest legislation, tax incentives, commercial retrofits, renewable energy options, how to benefit from the Green Deal and lots more.
This event is not just about technology – it’s about how to retrofit your life. There are even 22 different eco-friendly cars on show, including the Lightning and Tesla, and an opportunity to shop in the local sustainable food and drink market.
BHCC members can apply for two free tickets to the Show on www.businessinbrighton.org.ukquoting BHCC123. Children under 16 have free entry. For more information on the event, see www.ecotechnologyshow.co.uk
