Riding the wave to success
Brighton and Hove has always been a great place to start a new business, so it’s no surprise that many innovative and creative companies which started life here have now become household names,
Think the Body Shop, Choocywoocdoodah, Infinity Foods, Skint records and Vegetarian Shoes.
It’s a city that embraces new ideas, supports the independent trader and encourages entrepreneurs. That’s why five years ago, Brighton & Hove City Council joined forces with the Chamber of Commerce to launch ‘Ride the Wave’ – an innovative programme offering affordable, practical support for businesses at every stage of their journey.
Since launching in 2011, Ride the Wave has worked with hundreds of businesses in the city.
Last year 334 business people signed up to the programme, taking full advantage of the free and low cost training, workshops, meet-ups and mentoring.
We’ve had some excellent feedback, with 96% of last year’s business people rating the programme as ‘good’ or ‘excellent’.
This year, we have expanded the Ride the Wave programme are including more one to one training and mentoring. The programme kicks off with a workshop for people who want to turn an idea into a live business on 19 May, followed by a two-part workshop (on 24 May and 9 June) offering practical knowledge and inspiration to help turn a new business into a long-term, profitable, success.
