Placements as a means for alternative recruitment – link up with talented Sussex students
At the University of Sussex School of Business, Management and Economics (BMEc), we are proud this year to be supporting over 160 students seeking placement opportunities throughout the UK and abroad, but especially in the Brighton area, where most students are based. Local businesses can benefit enormously from taking on one of our placement students.
Why recruit a placement student?
Placements are a great way to complement your recruitment activity, supporting gradual growth and bringing fresh thinking into your business. A placement year benefits both student and employer, providing a chance for students to gain real world experience whilst helping you achieve your business goals and try out staff in new roles within your organisation.
Finding the right person to fit with your business culture can be a difficult task, particularly when you’re working in a small team. Recruitment of placement students has become increasingly competitive among employers, as it gives them the chance they need to really try out a person in a new role before committing to creating a permanent position
What makes for a good placement role?
Students are keen to find roles in Marketing, PR, Finance, Accounting, Consultancy and HR to begin in Summer 2017 for a year (or a minimum of 40 weeks). Work should be of graduate level and will often bring the best benefits if you have a new role you’re thinking of introducing to your business or if you have a specific project that the student can be responsible for.
Our talented placement students bring with them learning from two years of undergraduate study which will have included opportunities for hands on project work. Some students will also have prior work experience as well. They are fully briefed by the School before commencing their placement and will be supported by their academic Placement Tutor – as will employers - throughout the year.
