New redundancy support initiative from City College
With some of the UK’s most high profile retailers facing downsizing or closure, many Sussex employees have been left worrying about their jobs and considering their future career options. To help Sussex businesses and their staff deal with the uncertainty of redundancy, City College Brighton and Hove is leading on a free county-wide programme supporting employees to take positive action to build their job- seeking skills and confidence, access training and gain qualifications.
The Sussex Outplacement Service is a new government-funded initiative providing a comprehensive service across the county through the network of local Further Education colleges. With the support of the service, people can make a smooth transition from redundancy to a new job and take advantage of a number of free courses and training options. “City College is excited to be leading this programme”, says City College’s Principal, Phil Frier. “I think the fact that we’ve been entrusted to do so is testament to the huge contribution that the College has made in supporting unemployed people adjust and re-skill during what have been very challenging times. The skills training we can provide is vital in helping people to secure sustainable employment and we’re also confident that our excellent relationships with Jobcentre Plus and with employers who are recruiting locally, via our own employment service City Jobs, will enable even more people to retrain and find work.”
