Meet Marty our very first Snowdog!
You may have seen this cute fella this week waiting patiently outside the Pavilion. He’s Marty, and he’s the leader of a new pack of Snowdogs on their way to the city of Brighton and Hove.
This time next year the streets of Brighton & Hove will be the temporary home to a very special ‘pack’ of individually decorated Snowdogs forming a unique art trail.
Earlier this year Birmingham hosted a parliament of owls to create the 'Big Hoot', Bristol had Shaun the Sheep and Norwich, 'Go Go Dragon'! Well next year it’s going to be Brighton’s turn!
The Martlets Hospice have teamed up with event producer Wild in Art to host Snowdogs by the Sea, Brighton’s first major sculpture art trail.
What is ‘Snowdogs by the Sea’?
The trail will feature around 40 individually designed giant Snowdog sculptures. Each Snowdog will have its own identity, designed by a talented artist and adopted by a business sponsor.
This is a really accessible event and will bring together business and artists – creating a trail highlighting cultural gems and engaging with communities around the city and beyond. The trail will encourage people to be ‘tourists in their own town’ and also invite visitors to explore, discover and celebrate our brilliant city.
There will be trail maps and a Snowdog App to help navigate the trail, and we’ll encourage people to visit the sculptures, choose their favourite, take a selfie (of course!) and find each and every dog, while hopefully overcoming the temptation to climb them!
Why Snowdogs?
The distinctive Snowdog sculpture has been inspired by the much loved and well known character from the Raymond Briggs novel The Snowman and the Snowdog. It’s the first licenced trail to feature the Snowdog and the project is backed by Penguin and Channel 4 who own the rights to the character
When is it?
Our art trail will start at the end of September 2016 and run for 10 weeks. The dogs will then be rounded up for a farewell event, then auctioned off during December to raise much needed funds for the Martlets Hospice.
For us at the Martlets Hospice our Snowdogs give us an amazing opportunity to raise both money and awareness. And for our Snowdog partners and sponsors it’s will be a new and innovative way to communicate marketing messages and drive footfall. Win Win
We are at the exciting and rather daunting stage of project development and there is a lot to do. We’ll keep you posted with Snowdog News.
Do get in touch if you’d like more information on sponsorship or would like to come along to our very special launch event in January and meet our Snowdogs.
