Richard Ainsworth set up Rodhus Art and Design in the summer of 2010. The key objectives of the business are to promote the work of local designer makers, forge links within the local community and create a resource centre for designers as well as the general public. After he sold his lighting business, Richard was left with an enormous empty factory on two floors with good vehicular access (16,000 sq ft approx) coupled with a desire that manufacturing should continue at the site. He identified a need for shared work space within Brighton, open to craft based designer makers. In the summer of 2010 he visited Cockpit Arts in London and was impressed by the diversity of talent on offer. He was determined to bring a similar model to Brighton which he hoped would make a significant contribution to the local cultural landscape and economy.
