Launch of BCP's Good Practical Guide To Corporate Responsibility In Age Management And Workforce Planning
Date: 24th September 2010 - Time: 8:30am - 10:00am Breakfast (Full English) and Launch
10:00am - 11:30am Networking
This event is sponsored by Sussex County Cricket Club and funded by the LifeLines Project at Age Concern Brighton, Hove and Portslade a partnership project funded by HM Treasury and Brighton & Hove City Council.
Good practice in age management means ensuring that employment and HR practices recognise and value the contribution, skills and commitment that older workers can bring to the workplace and which enable older workers to fulfill their potential.
Did you know that across the South East there are approximately 100,000 economically inactive people aged 50-65 who would come back to work if offered the chance. They are also more highly qualified than elsewhere in the UK. Rob Douglas of SEEDA said that ‘as the economy emerges from recession, retaining the skills and experience of older workers will be vital to the UK's continued economic growth and competitiveness'. Alongside these statements the Leitch Review found that Britain has one of the lowest reported participation rates of older workers in the labour market than in the rest of the industrialised world.
The Business Community Partnership was commissioned by the LifeLines Project at Age Concern Brighton, Hove and Portslade to work with local businesses to identify and promote the business case for valuing the contribution of older employees. This Good Practice Guide will enable the development of relevant and appropriate policies and practices to make a real difference to your organisation.
