Last financial quarter: Make it count
Susi Doherty from Vervate talks about how your business can make a difference during the last financial quarter.
As businesses, we all have our own approaches to charity. Some of us have full blown Corporate Social Responsibility Policies, others of us volunteer where we can at the local Hospice Shop. Many of us do nothing, for various reasons - but very rarely because we don’t care.
This last quarter can be a time when some budgets remain unspent, or even from another angle, that after Christmas feeling of excess can leave us feeling like we want to ‘give something back’.
Our Charity of the Year this year is Refugee Support Greece. You can read a bit about our own experience of working with charities here. I am working with the group, started by Brighton businessman Paul Hutchings, by just helping out with newsletters every month (you can sign up here).
Over Christmas I was reading about the harsh weather (coldest in 100 years in some parts of Greece) at the moment. I am sure you did too, and you don’t need me to write a list of why money is so critical to them at the moment. The charity’s ethos of dignity first with quick responsive actions has been clear to see in the practical application of donations (time, resource and money) to date – check out their blog, there are some amazing stories.
This piece is basically and unashamedly asking you to think about giving some of your last quarter profits to them. Your donations go directly and quickly to where they need to go.
If you are able to do so, don’t forget to let people know. It's not only good for your own brand and marketing, it is also good for your staff team and the publicity helps the charity to gain more support.
