Introducing Law Student Giovanni

Hello businesses in Brighton. I’m Giovanni, a volunteer at the Chamber of Commerce and a Law student at the University of Brighton. I took to volunteering at the Chamber because I wanted to commit my time to work that I saw was worthwhile and rewarding. Having studied business at ALevel and several business modules throughout my degree, I have found that I am quite enthusiastic about the political elements of the commercial world and ensuring that businesses are given a platform to be vocal and thrive. Those are the reasons why I am excited to get stuck in with working at the Chamber of Commerce.

A lot of people mistake me for being Italian, granted my name hints that much, but in fact I’m mixed race, with my mother being from Ireland and my father from Seychelles. So it’s quite an odd mix with quite an odd choice of a name, but nonetheless I’m quite your business ‘wiz-kid’ enthusiast.

The ultimate career goal is to become a practicing barrister. The reason why I want to be an advocate is that nothing gives me as much of a buzz. I've really enjoyed mooting at university and it has really improved my public speaking and confidence. The authenticity of the independent bar (self-employed practising barristers) is a really attractive way to work and I look forward to the day I can practice in the areas of law I have a real passion for.

As a volunteer at the Chamber I will be doing a bit of tweeting and blogging with the aim of engaging members, and prospective members, of the Chamber. As well as that, we have some plans to begin doing a ‘twitter student hour’ to engage the business savvy students in Brighton and Hove at the universities and colleges to see what their thoughts and ideas are on current trends and issues in Brighton.

I can’t wait to see what work I will be getting involved with throughout my time at the Chamber of Commerce and I’m really looking forward to meeting all of the businesses in the Brighton community.
