Interview with Paul Feist, Managing Director of Plus Accounting
Plus Accounting, sponsors of our High growth marketing for high growth businesses event on 16 March 2017, is a firm of chartered accountants and business advisors established in 1992. We caught up with MD Paul Feist ahead of the event to find out his top tips on high growth and what he is looking forward to about the event.
Tell me a bit about your business, how did it start?
In 1992, I was working for a national firm of accountants in Brighton and had always wanted to set up my own firm so did just that on 1 July 1992. Peter Hedgethorne joined me a year later and this year we celebrate 25 years in business.
How has your business grown over the years?
It is fair to say that growth has been steady over the years rather than spectacular! In my first year, the turnover was £50,000, then £100,000 in year two and in our 25th year it will be £1.7m. There have been ups and downs along the way as I have brought in new partners and tried new initiatives but we are firmly on an upward trajectory and have a clear business plan and set of objectives.
Your mission at Plus Accounting is to go beyond accounts and help businesses to grow, how do you do this?
The key helping our clients grow is to be genuinely interested in their business. We are flexible in how we provide the services that our clients need but above all, having regular contact is vital. On-going contact and having an interest in what is happening to their business helps us bring our skills into play and become an indispensable part of the financial decision making process.
How do you inspire your team?
The way I inspire my team is to lead by example. I have high standards and if others see me constantly applying those standards to my work and how I interact with our clients, that hopefully makes a lasting impression.
What are your top 5 tips on high growth marketing?
- Have a clearly defined marketing plan.
- Allocate sufficient time and monetary resources.
- Employ the best marketing manager that you can.
- Be very enthusiastic.
- Aim big!
What are your top 3 tips for success?
- Be professional in everything that you do.
- Be passionate about your business.
- Work very hard!
What’s your favourite thing about doing business in Brighton?
My favourite thing about doing business in Brighton is the enthusiasm and drive that people have for making a success of their business.
What are you looking forward to hearing about at the event?
I am looking forward to picking up ideas that I have not thought about.
