Independent Member of the Standards Committee Wanted: Two Posts
Our Standards Committee oversees the delivery of high standards of behaviour by politicians and employees, and promotes good practice in relation to ethics and probity. The Council is looking to appoint two Independent Members to the Committee. The Committee comprises six local Councillors, up to four Independent Members and two representatives from Rottingdean Parish Council, and advises on good practice as well as dealing with complaints about Councillors. This role is critical to the work of the Committee in reflecting the views and expectations of local people. The work will be challenging, innovative and provides a real opportunity to make an active contribution to standards in public life.
Experienced in matters of ethics and probity, you will be able to demonstrate a record of the highest level of integrity. It is also desirable that you live or work in the Brighton & Hove area or have knowledge of the locality and its diverse communities. The Committee meets up to five times a year and this position is unpaid although basic expenses will be met.
