Head honchos that inspire growth
Panel, Brighton Summit, Friday 16 October
Giving their views on guiding your team through growth you’ll hear from John O’Sullivan founder of Ten2Two, Susan Carroll of Scala- Advance and Caroline Walmsley, CEO of Brightwave.
John says, ‘When we set out to launch a new business we want it all. Grow fast, become sustainable, be a great place to work and have customers that love you. But how do you juggle all of this when your mind is on the day-job?’ John will give you some great tips to keep you grounded and have at least one eye on the prize!
John O’Sullivan is an experienced business leader, John currently holds leadership positions with two organisations - as Group Marketing Director at Key Travel, the market leader in international travel management for the Humanitarian and Education sectors and as Chair and Founder at Ten2Two, a pioneering resourcing organisation specialising in professional flexible and part-time jobs.
Both organisations are typical of the businesses John likes to develop. Specialist, underserved niches supported with a compelling proposition with potential to innovate and lead in the sector. John’s entrepreneurial work at the very beginnings of the internet has given him a thirst for good ideas and solid management.
Susan will talk about how teamwork is almost always lacking within failing and unsuccessful organisations. She believes that building great teams is making a powerful choice to bring positive change in your business. But teamwork is hard to achieve and not easy to measure. Susan will talk about her experiences of teams in global companies and small businesses and what they can learn from each other.
As a business leader and a business owner, Susan Carroll is passionate about leadership development and coaching and the value it brings in driving more effective organisations. Her work includes 1:1 executive coaching with the C suite, facilitation of teams, cultural change, vision, strategic thinking, stakeholder management within matrix organisations, behavioural change and resilience coaching during complex, messy change. With over 20 years of experience leading teams in industry top 10s and facilitating in boardrooms around the world, Susan knows a thing or two about dilemmas, discomfort, change, and the need for great leadership and teamwork.
Caroline believes, ‘Collaborative teams are the most sophisticated management technology there is, but nearly 100% of today's businesses are using hierarchical models of management developed when our most advanced communication technology was the telegraph.’ Caroline will share her experience of building open, dynamic and collaborative networks that deliver real bottom line results, looking at how both the people you choose to work with and the cultural freedoms of your organisation affect your ability to power innovation, agility and growth.
As CEO of Brightwave Caroline leads all operational, strategic and development management within the business and is passionate about driving the commercial, creative and technical agenda forward. Caroline joined Brightwave in 2013 with a proven track record of executive management in the publishing industry, in particular for academic and professional publishers. She now works alongside Brightwave's senior management team overseeing 80 employees who collaborate with various FTSE 250 clients. Caroline is most interested in how creative collaborations and innovative technologies can help solve business problems and bridge the gap between an organisation's current performance and its future potential.
The discussion will be facilitated by Dieter Hachenberg. Dieter is a coach, trainer and facilitator who loves working with leaders and goal driven individuals to increase their effectiveness and impact. He has a long history working in technology, technical teams and complex project management in the BBC and now coaches and trains internationally.
