Go on - we dare you!
Jill Woolf from Chimera Communications explains the Chamber Summit Dare Hour sessions
Just when you thought it was safe to go to the Summit, we throw in a dare.
During the day, there’s going to be a Dare Hour. It’s where you choose to do something you wouldn’t ordinarily have thought about trying. Well, maybe you thought about it but you really didn’t dare. So – now you can! We won’t watch you, we won’t tell anyone and we won’t take photos (ok, so we fibbed a bit on the last one).
It’s all meant to be a bit of fun but with a serious side. In business, you have to take risks and dare to do something ‘out of the box’ otherwise you could stagnate and never develop and grow.
Which session will you choose? Each one is run by an expert in their field so you can relax just a tiny bit, knowing you’re in safe hands.
Take a quick peek and let us know on the day ...

Explore how you can use these skills in your business to boost effectiveness. Expect laughter and learning in this supportive, challenging and hilarious session with practical take-away techniques.
Dare to be provocative – for the wallflower in you
Making yourself heard in a noisy world can be tough. To stand any chance of cutting through the din and getting your message across, you need to be interesting and provocative. In this suck-it-and-see session, you'll be encouraged to discover what it feels like to make people sit up and take notice of what you say. Is it possible to push the boundaries and provoke without being annoying, or even downright offensive? There's only one way to find out!
Dare to break the code – for the hidden geek in you
Jamie Matthews, DabApps
When you think of a programmer, you probably imagine an eccentric genius hunched over a computer, fingers flying over the keys, and lines of indecipherable text scrolling rapidly up a glowing screen. But writing code needn’t be like it is in the movies. It can be easy, fun, creative and satisfying, and you can pick up the basics fairly quickly. In this session, you’ll learn some basic concepts, write some simple code that actually works, and get started on the path to turning your big idea into real software.
Sing if you dare – for the diva in you
Julie Nye, Community Musician and Music Educator
Want to sing in a choir but think you can't sing or are not good enough? Julie Nye, who runs community choirs in Brighton, believes that singing is a skill and, like all other skills, it needs experience and encouragement to develop. Come and receive both and surprise yourself.
You'll be singing in harmony in no time and you may just love it!
Dare to meet the creepy crawlies – for the Jungle Celebrity in you
Nicky Cobb, Animal Extravaganza
If getting up close and personal with snakes, spiders, cockroaches, bullfrogs, millipedes and geckos makes you go a bit squeamish then this is the daring session for you. Learn about these fascinating creatures, and have the opportunity to overcome your fears by holding some of them!
Dare to draw your breath – for the poser in you
Jake Spicer, Draw
Did you hate art at school? Think you don’t have a creative bone in your body? Visit New England House for an introduction to life drawing. You’ll glean lots of tips and advice and may find there’s a budding Picasso lurking within you. You’ll be able to take your artwork home as a souvenir.
Dare to laugh and strike a pose – for the balance in you
Carolina Ruiz, Mau Motions
Learn the skills of breathing properly by applying Qigong breathing techniques to endure your core and abdominal muscles, body language awareness games to help you become mindful when challenging moments arises, laughter exercises to encourage positive attitude and happiness in your daily life, and meaningful and conscious interactions with everyone you meet, live and work with. Face the fear and do it anyway! You’ll be glad you did.
