Networking events can be a goldmine for professional opportunities.
If you are an exhibitor, trade shows offer a unique opportunity to showcase your products or services and connect with potential customers.
If you are a guest, then networking possibilities abound.
But in a room full of people looking to make valuable connections, how do you stand out from the crowd?
The key is to be memorable.
So, what can you do to shine and leave a lasting impression on both your potential customers and your new connections?
Perfect your elevator pitch
Being able to concisely explain who you are and what you do in a compelling way is a clear way to being remembered, whether you’re an exhibitor or a guest!
Make sure it’s clear, easy to understand and showcases your unique value and try practising with your friends and family beforehand.
Leverage social media
Social media can be a great way to create buzz before, during, and after the event.
Whether it's a teaser to tell people what they can look forward to, event updates to share how snazzy your booth is or video proof of how busy you were - all forms of content are great to entice your customers and ensure that you engage your audience and drive traffic to your booth.
Create an eye-catching booth
Your booth is your stage, so make it a show your customers won’t want to miss! Use high-quality graphics, banners, and signage that clearly convey your brand and message. People also love to see, touch and experience things firsthand, so make your booth interactive and engaging. A well designed booth is a surefire way to draw attendees to you.
Be approachable and friendly
A warm smile can go a long way. At the end of the day, people are usually at events to speak to you. So, make sure you listen, ask questions and have a welcoming attitude to those approaching your booth.
Reminder, for those with employees or booth staff - these people are your brand ambassadors. Ensure they are well-trained and knowledgeable about your products or service, and ask them to steer clear of their phones.
Collect and follow up on leads
The saying ‘strike whilst the iron is hot’ had its place in Medieval Britain, and it still rings true today. Have an effective system in place to collect leads efficiently - whether that’s a spreadsheet or a business card scanner, or connecting on LinkedIn.
And then follow up! Make sure to follow up promptly with personalised messages, with any conversation notes sprinkled in there to nurture and impress.
“Do not stare down at their phones all day, make sure that staff are engaged with every stand visit, and most importantly, smile. There is a lot to be excited about for maximum success.” - Sonny Cutting, Founder of Sussex Business Show.
Standing out at trade shows as an exhibitor or a guest requires careful planning, creativity, and a commitment to maximising value.
Most importantly, you need to be remembered for all the right reasons to ensure your trade show attendance isn’t just a blurry haze.
