Find out more about apprenticeship opportunities available in Brighton
Ahead of National Apprenticeship Week, GB Met College shares the range of services they offer across the city, as well as details on several upcoming events for anyone looking to start an apprenticeship or take on an apprentice of their own.
We are GB Met College and for those not aware of us we are the result of a merger between City and Northbrook Colleges in 2017. Owing to the merger, we have expanded, offering of a range of services and provision across the City, including:
- Apprenticeships
- Commercial training
- Free online short courses for staff
- Adult learning
- Room hire and lettings
We have over 600 apprentices across a range of disciplines, including Business & Customer Service, Leadership & Management, Accounting, Construction, Hospitality / Catering, Digital Marketing and IT, and Care to name but a few! These learners are supported by a 60-strong team of fully qualified assessors, making us one of the largest apprenticeship providers in Sussex.
We work with hundreds of employers who look to utilise our apprenticeship service to both recruit for new apprentices into their organisation, as well as upskilling current colleagues – did you know that training is FREE for SMEs and their 16-18 year-old learners, and the cost of an apprenticeship for a 19+ learner is available from just £200? There are also grants available for organisations taking on 16-18 year-old apprentices. As part of our service, we can also advertise and screen applications for your apprentice candidates through our Recruitment Team.
To celebrate the ongoing success of our apprentices and the great relationships we have with employers in Brighton & Hove and beyond, we are holding a number of events during Apprenticeship Week (Monday 5th March – Friday 9th March for your diaries!)
We are running two graduate events for our Brighton & Hove City Council and West Sussex County Council apprentices, with ceremonies being held at The Amex and Chichester Cathedral. We are one of the partners involved in this year’s Butlins STEMfest on Thursday 8th March….a great event bringing together students and employers who share a love for all things Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths. If you would be interested in finding out more then check this out at http://www.stemfest.co.uk/stemfests/coastal-stemfest
On Wednesday 7th March we are hosting a ‘Public Services’ event, which ends with a parade from our Broadwater Worthing campus at 3.00pm – feel free to come along to see the march in March!
If networking and meeting us is your thing (and being part of the Chamber of Commerce we guess that it is), then feel free to pop in to one of our drop-in sessions on Wednesday 7th March at either our Pelham Street Brighton campus at 12.00 – 3.00pm, or our Broadwater Worthing campus between 1.00 – 5.00pm. Both our Skills Advisors and Recruiters will be on hand to meet employers and prospective apprentices to tell you more about apprenticeships, the rest of our offerings, and GB Met College.
We are also holding a networking breakfast at our Brighton East campus at Wilson Avenue, the site of our newly opened £9m Construction Centre which is home to our various trades apprentices and students. If you’re free from 8.00 – 9.30am on Thursday 8th March and you would like to attend, please book via Eventbrite (all industry sectors are welcome!)
Finally, if you have any apprenticeship or commercial training needs, enquiries, or just want an informal chat, then please contact me, Matt Brill – matt.brill@gbmc.ac.uk or 07872 126489 – we’d love to hear from and meet with you now or in the future.
Thanks to GB Met College for writing this blog.
