Exporting 101: business beyond borders
The latest interactive workshop set up by the Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce is on Monday 18th June and is essential for businesses thinking of exporting products or services.
Specifically designed for anyone who has wondered if they could export, how to go about it and whether it’s worthwhile, the Chamber has teamed up with UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), the government organisation supporting UK businesses in overseas markets, for a strategic half-day event at Brighton’s original boutique hotel, Blanch House in Kemp Town.
The usual perception is that exporting is the domain of large companies, so some small business owners shy away from trading overseas. But this can be hugely beneficial for increased market share and customer base development, and growth of sales and profits. It is of course dependent on the quality and success of the products or services.
Other benefits include diversifying risk such as economic decline and market changes at home, and selling excess goods internationally to minimise ‘throw away’ and extend shelf life.
So in this case, size doesn’t necessarily matter.
The workshop will benefit those yet to sell overseas, or who only fulfil occasional orders and now want to look at whether exporting should be part of their overall business strategy.
The workshop covers how to:
• explore how exporting could benefit your business
• examine how suitable your products or services are for overseas markets
• consider and evaluate the readiness of your business to trade internationally
• understand the issues faced by exporters and how to address them
• find out what support is available to your business, how to access it and how to make it happen
A case study presentation and optional one-to-one session with UKTI’s international trade advisers are also included.
Any actively trading UK business based in the south east not currently exporting, or only exporting in a very limited way, can attend. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
The workshop runs from 2pm to 5pm and costs £20 for Chamber members and/or guests.
