Duke of York's Desire Hour
The Desire Hour - Duke of York's
Brighton Revisited - Archive footage of Brighton in 1969 from Screen Archive South East at the University of Brighton
What a treat!
I'm very pleased to say that the nick-name 'The Fleapit' that was applied to the Duke of York's cinema many moons ago no longer applies. Despite being the oldest purpose built and continually operational cinema in the UK, there is not a bug to be seen (or felt!). In fact, this historic Brighton institution and Grade 2 listed building is in excellent condition thanks to the maintenance and renovation that has taken place since the 90s.
Thanks to the Brighton Summit for organising the 'Desire Hour'. We had the opportunity to view footage of Brighton from 1969. Having lived in Brighton for 16 years and visited since childhood I was reminded of how much has changed and yet...how much has stayed the same!
A wonderful chance to reflect on new developments, Regency architecture, fashion, our love of fish and chips and the ever-lasting saucy, seaside postcard. I love Brighton!
Thank you Brighton Summit!
