Develop staff potential and reap the rewards
“You don’t build a business – you build people – and then people build your business” - Zig Ziglar
Develop staff potential and you reap the rewards. For Yelo Architects our success is rooted in our team of talented staff, and we work hard to ensure everyone is reaching their full potential through a variety of means. Being a member of Brighton Chamber gives us access to numerous Bitesized courses that cover a broad range of topics and their accessibility make them easy for anyone at Yelo to attend.
Over the past 12 months we have attended over a dozen between us and it’s really useful to have such easy access to excellent short courses all available locally.
Bitesized courses have provided help in a range of areas but the session we are all still talking about is 'How to be a Productivity Ninja' by Think Productive. It has genuinely helped us to consider how we approach our work, with many of us using Trello as a second brain tool and weekly Headspace meditation sessions helping us work towards ‘Zen like calm’!
The effects of having staff attend specialised training courses are significant. Our 3D visualiser, Ellen, began as a digital marketing apprentice who proposed to use her background in game design to model our building designs and import them to Unreal Engine 4. This allowed our clients to walk around their prospective builds, and when we added Oculus Rift virtual reality to the mix things really took off. By supporting her through the process and giving her both access to training and time to learn, we are now able to provide an industry leading service.
More basic training is often necessary but proves to be equally vital - we always make sure our new starters are offered one to one Mac training at the Apple Store and advanced AutoCad training is arranged when required. It’s for this purpose we have partnerships with local firms who offer specialist training and services.
It takes 7 years to become an Architect and we encourage everyone at different stages of their architectural careers to become fully qualified. We mentor each individual and offer assistance with their RIBA Part 3 as well as the possibility to carry on working at the practice while they study for their masters of architecture part time.
Yelo’s commitment to staff is genuine so we were thrilled to receive this employment feedback recently:
“Working with such creative people has broadened my design knowledge and I cannot express enough how thankful and grateful I am for the opportunities and support the practice have given me.”
Investment in our staff has immensely paid off and has helped us achieve outstanding success for the business. We have continued to steadily grow the practice and look forward to continued growth and more excellent Bitesized sessions from The Brighton Chamber!
