The Creative Hub - how it happened
Two Chamber members collaborated recently to kick start our Creative Hub series of events. Here Laura Darling tells us how that meeting of minds came about.
We sat over a coffee in Fiveways, Helen Joubert and I. And we said; isn’t it a shame that there’s no single place for all the creative folk in Brighton and Hove to meet? (There are, of course, specialist groups for writers and illustrators and designers etc.) But there’s not an inclusive, cross-category, collaborative, supportive, challenging Hub (let's call it) for us all.
That was last October. In March, the Creative Hub launched and people came. They were sparky, full of ideas, happy to be there. We couldn’t have hoped for better. It’s your Hub, we said, lets’ make it work for you. And let’s have some fun and keep those creative spirits alive and kicking.
So, the next Hub on 1 May will help us get better at putting our work and ourselves OUT THERE. It’s not showing off, it will help us define why our painting, or design, or writing, or poetry or craft should be seen and heard. And if we hope to sell our work and earn a living from it, then we are creative businesses and must find a model that works and use it.
We’re going to hear from Frances Tobin, who launched her creative business last summer. And Julia Chanteray will make sure we all talk to each other and pitch our work well. We hope collaborations will be born, new ventures set in motion and we’re all as sparky and happy as we were first time round.
Look forward to seeing you there.
Our next Creative Hub breakfast meet-up takes place on the 1st May. You can read more and book here
