Creating a vision, creating success

Why is vision important? Can you picture your outcome? What makes you inspired about your business or the business you work for?
These are some of the questions Susan Carroll of Scala Advance asked at the beginning of her Brighton Summit session, ‘Create a vision, create success’.
A company’s vision and purpose drives its success in a “colossal way”, so taking some time out to really focus on what you want to achieve and what your business stands for is an important task.
Susan encouraged everyone to unleash their creativity and map out their vision on paper. The group embraced the opportunity to really focus on what their company stands for, taking this rare moment to explore the more emotive side of business.
“When you’re busy, it’s very hard to carve out that time to set your intention”, Susan told the group.
Focusing your attention on your vision allows a whole host of emotions to come into the frame and really helps you to align your process and progress with your purpose.
What makes a powerful vision? It should be inspiring, strategically sound, have a reasonable chance of happening, be documented in some way and be easily communicated.
Allow what you and your business stand for to shape not just your journey but also your destination - “You can’t talk about vision without talking about your values”.
Laura Evans showed us her vision, a metaphor of a Christmas party. For Laura, success is working with the right clients who share her vision and ethics, scaling her business and building long term relationships. Laura’s vision was achieved through imagining emotions - not just what she will you be doing in the future, but how she will be feeling.
So how do you develop your vision? Susan suggests you include other people by telling sharing your values with them, getting them involved in shaping your business' journey and taking an inclusive approach.
