The Competitive Edge: affordable consultancy for small businesses
Clear Business Development Ltd has launched The Competitive Edge, a new service that makes it possible for smaller businesses to afford the expertise of an experienced business consultant to supplement the skills within their company. The Hove-based consultancy works with small to medium-sized enterprises, advising them on how to develop and grow profitably.
They say money can’t buy experience, but in reality, most successful businesses do buy it every day. To give themselves the competitive edge, successful organisations work with experienced consultants or mentors to supplement the expertise within their company. However, successful and experienced consultants are often beyond the budget of most micro businesses or small businesses employing up to 9 people, even though they make up 95% of the businesses in our economy. Now, with The Competitive Edge, smaller businesses can afford to engage an experienced consultant, either to provide on-going support or to call on at critical points in their company’s development.
Barclay Thompson, director of Clear Business Development comments: “For the past two years there has been very little Government funding to pay for quality business advice to help small businesses. Having grown my previous business from a bedroom start-up to a thriving company with an annual turnover of £3 million, I understand how important having a fresh perspective and strategic and practical input from a knowledgeable advisor can be. I am introducing The Competitive Edge service in order to enable small businesses to access advice as and when they need it at a price they can afford.”
The Competitive Edge is a flexible service and can be tailored to the needs of individual businesses. The business owner can choose between on-going support, an on-demand service to tackle specific issues, or can join one of the small, informal mentor groups.
What Clients Say
“We went through the state of the business, strengths and opportunities then went on to develop a solid plan of attack. In particular, Barclay's insights into how best to generate new business were incredibly valuable."James Carroll, Founder & Lead Developer, Touch Fantastic Ltd. Brighton-based developer of apps for iPhone, IPad and iPod Touch, www.touchfantastic.com.
“Working on your own it can be difficult to get the necessary perspective on your business and decide how best to focus your energy in order to get the clients you really want. Barclay was very practical in his advice, and after just one meeting I had a very clear strategy and practical steps for what I need to do next.”
Helen Keevy, Copywriter & web editor, Core Copywriting, www.corecopywriting.co.uk
“I came away from my meeting with Barclay with strategies to work on and the confidence to make changes I had been considering but needed the mentorship and advice to put into action. What to put on the back burner and what to prioritise became clear with his help.” Julie Storey, founder of The Brighton Cupcake Company, www.thebrightoncupcakecompany.co.uk
