College hosts dinner to celebrate student enterprise
City College Brighton and Hove recently held its inaugural ‘Enterprise Dinner’ to showcase the entrepreneurial skills of its students which have been nurtured by the College’s Entrepreneur in Residence Nigel Lambe (MD of Small Batch Coffee and WD King). Students have also been benefitting from a recently formed Enterprise Group where they can develop their business ideas with tutorial support and advice.
The event, hosted at the College’s Gallery Restaurant, was attended by many of the College’s influential partners in the local business community including representatives from Prime Care, Brighton & Hove City Council, the Gingerman Group and the Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership.
“I was delighted to see the great and the good from Brighton & Hove's Business community join us in City College to get a flavour of how the college is embracing an enterprise culture and having some real success with the students who are now seeing self employment as a real career choice”, said Nigel Lambe. “Hearing about the journeys of young entrepreneurs was a real inspiration to everyone who attended the event."
“The evening was a great success and having such an inspirational and innovative group of people in one room definitely inspired both the students and the staff of the college”, said Itziar Leighton, City College’s Head of Enterprise & Business. “We were thrilled with the number of offers to mentor our students in their business ideas, and the desire expressed to work closely with us on ensuring that enterprise and innovation is at the heart of every one of our students’ learning. Providing our students with experiences and events they can fully immerse themselves in, while allowing them to develop their personal skills and attributes as well as any potential business ideas, is our commitment to the students, and providing our city with employees which are innovate, free thinking, proactive and confident is our pledge to our employer partners.”
Student Eleni Mettyear, who showcased her ‘Yeah Baby’ tie-dye clothing brand at the event, said: “It was a brilliant opportunity to meet key people from the local business community and other young entrepreneurs. It’s really inspiring that the College is offering this type of encouragement and support and it’s definitely a step in the right direction.”
