Chamber members Digicave win at the Digital Inventions Lab '11
Chamber members and Brighton-based company Digicave faced off stiff competition to win D-Media and Screen South’s Film and Digital Inventions Lab ‘11, a scheme supported by Screen South, the North Sea Screen Partnership, Interreg 1V B and UK Film Council Lottery Fund,
On 29th March, during the D-Media Global Conference, a panel including Jeremy Silver (Technology Strategy Board), Linda James (Slyfox Films) and Jo Nolan (Screen South), chose Digicave, presented by Callum Rex Reid, to receive development support and the sum of £3,000 to help the project at this critical stage in its development.
Digicave creates 3D photographic models of real-life ‘moments’, using an innovative mix of cutting-edge hardware and software. Their technical tools include proprietary image analysis software and state-of-the-art digital camera arrays.
What makes them truly a digital invention is their ability to make and deliver what they call ‘free viewpoint media’ (FVM), a new medium that allows the user to experience the real world with a freedom that has only previously been experienced in video games.
Their system is designed to be used as a creative tool, to enable content creators capture subject matter, in form and image, in the moment and have these rendered into fully explorable interactive experiences on the web, or mobile or any other digital platform.
