Celebrating a Million Pound year
The beautiful setting of Pangdean Old Barn was the venue for the second annual public meeting of Sussex Community Foundation.
Guests included both supporters of the Foundation as well as a number of local charities & voluntary groups that have received grants.
Proceedings were opened by Peter Field, Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex who is Joint President of the Foundation.
Chief Executive Kevin Richmond highlighted the successes of the past year during which the Foundation gave out £1 million to groups across Sussex and also, with the help of match funding from the Government’s Endowment Challenge, added £1 million to an endowment fund for Sussex.
This permanent fund will be used to provide support for local groups for many years to come.
Representatives from two local charities spoke movingly about their work. The Clocktower Sanctuary provides help for young homeless people in Brighton and Project Artworks run art workshops for people with learning difficulties.
Stephen Hammersley, Chief Executive of the UK Community Foundation Network, also updated guests on national developments including the Government’s Big Society agenda.
The evening was generously sponsored by Rathbones.
