Can you earn money from filming at your property or business? Free ‘drop in’ event for businesses – Wed 9th April
Brighton & Hove City Council has been working with Creative England on trying to ensure Brighton & Hove is recognised as a ‘film friendly’ city and that local businesses can gain benefit from this. As part of this project, Creative England is hosting a free drop in event for local businesses to see how they can benefit financially by being on the ‘film location’ register that Creative England has established. Can you earn money from filming at your property or business?

"You probably know that The Fear filmed in Brighton. Did you know that the current feature film, The Monuments Men filmed in Rye? Or that The Tunnel filmed in East Sussex and Kent? Television and film productions are constantly looking for new and interesting properties to use as film locations – and they’ll pay to use yours! Creative England are the not-for-profit organisation delivering free support of productions that are filming in England, outside London. Working in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council, Creative England are hosting a Locations Event at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Brighton on the 9th April as an opportunity for local businesses and companies to find out if they can cater to the Film and TV industry.
We are continually looking to update our locations database with a variety of interesting properties, so, whatever type of property you own - be it a pub, warehouse, cinema, cottage or church – you or your business may be able to make money from offering it up to productions looking for film locations.
Brighton and Hove has always been a vibrant film city. From the Hove pioneers to exciting new talent, the city has been a magnet for film-makers and film production companies who delight in pushing the boundaries of how to make or show film on an international stage. Brighton & Hove City Council are developing a new website called Film City which will launch next month and which will bring all of the different elements of the exciting film cluster together, you can see it here: www.filmcitybrighton.org
We have also been working closely with the Council on a variety of activities to promote the fantastic film offer that the area has to offer: archiving locations on our national database, hosting crew nights for film professionals and arranging career events for film students. The location event on 9 April is part of the Council’s commitment and will also play host to the official announcement of Brighton & Hove as a Film Friendly City – presented on behalf of the city by Councillor Bill Randall.
