Buy local to protect local jobs
Brighton & Hove City Council has launched a campaign to encourage residents to spend at least 50 per cent of their shopping budget locally during the credit crunch.
The council aims to persuade at least 1,000 residents to 'buy local', whenever possible, including when using services like plumbers, mechanics and gardeners, so that money spent by local people stays in the area.
Councillors also want at least 100 businesses to support the scheme, and a website - www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/buylocal - has been launched so people can sign up to the recession-busting campaign.
The website includes a directory of local businesses and lists key benefits from purchasing goods and services from within the city.
Council leader Mary Mears said, "If we all pledge to spend at least 50 per cent of our shopping budget locally we will all play our part in helping to boost the economy and protecting local jobs throughout the city."
Local business? - Be part of it
Through the Buy Local campaign shoppers are encouraged to make the right choice by buying from you rather than online or outside of our city.
Take advantage and close the deal by showing local customers you have the right products for them at the right price, right on their doorstep.
If you run a business based in Brighton & Hove, or you employ people locally, you can be a part of the Buy Local scheme. Find out how the scheme could benefit your business by visiting www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/buylocal.
