Brilliant support for your business
Ride the Wave – a new programme of business support announced for 2016
We’re pleased to announce that we’ll be delivering another series of Ride the Wave. Funded and led by Brighton & Hove City Council, Ride the Wave is a programme of subsidised training and mentoring for businesses across the city.
In this new programme there will be workshops for people with a business idea they want to turn into reality and start-up businesses in their first two years of trading. There will be two workshops for established businesses wanting to overcome the barriers to growth, and an event to help with tendering and public procurement. Workshop attendees will have the chance to have a follow-up session with a choice of business mentors and advisors.
Jane Robbie, who runs Jane’s Place – a creative, well-being space at her home in West Hove - attended one of the start-up workshops from a previous Ride the Wave programme. She found it so useful to meet other businesses with the same challenges and issues, that five of them who met at the Ride the Wave workshop, now regularly meet up. "Running a small business is exciting but can feel quite isolating at times. It's been really beneficial to continue to meet up, bounce ideas around, discuss challenges and of course offer plenty of encouragement and support. The longer term benefits of attending a Ride the Wave workshop have been huge!"
The group is made up of Jane Robbie (Jane's Place), Dennis Muir (Gloprint), Emma Fish (Brighton Jewel), James Forbes (Man Friday) and Lauren Psyk (Lauren Psyk Photography). We went to see Jane, Dennis, Emma and James at Jane’s Place with Carol Lewis, President of Brighton Chamber.
