Behind the scenes of the latest Chamber video!
When we were asked by the Chamber to make them a video that would help to both showcase Chamber members and attract new members but that also could be screened at the State of the City event, we knew that we wanted to do something a bit different.
We applied the same principles that we do to all our videos, and by doing so have made it dynamic, engaging and most importantly something people want to watch!
Here are a few handy pointers for anyone thinking about making or commissioning a video for their business:
- Make it interesting: As we often advise our clients, no one is going to voluntarily watch an online video that makes you want to kick yourself in the head. Videos have to be entertaining to get any message across or they simply won't be watched. Everyone loves a good story, why should your video be any different?
- Keep it short & Simple (KISS): Everyone is busy so to assume that someone will give you five minutes of their precious time is a bit presumptuous, so it helps to be short. Once you get above 90 seconds, you’d better have some pretty good content or you’ll start losing viewers fast. Creating a concise video depends on using short sentences and simple language, industry jargon is a no-no.
- Set the tone, have standards: Video is powerful precisely because you have the power to choose a tone for your company and connect with your customers in a way that text can’t, so choose a style that reflects your company ethos. As with your website, viewers will see the video as representative of your company. It always amazes me that people who spend months and thousands of pounds getting their websites to look just right will then throw up a rubbish video! If people see a shoddy video on your website it will not reflect well on you.
- What’s in it for me? Never forget the question that your viewers/clients will be asking themselves throughout the entire video. Make sure that it is focused on your potential viewer.
Our brief from the Chamber: To make a professional video that conveys the benefits of being a Chamber member whilst emphasising the diverse nature of the business that are members, and encouraging others to join.
Did we achieve the brief? You decide...
