Are you being heard?
On the 17th January the Brighton and Hove chamber of Commerce are holding a bite sized session offering PR advice to local business.
Tracy Allen and Toby Buckle are going to be leading a two hour session, giving effective strategies on how to get across your message, brand and purpose in 30 seconds flat and less than 147 characters.
With 15 years’ experience in PR and events management, Tracey knows what it is to be at the heart of the community. She has extensive experience working for the music and radio industry, as well as being events manager for the Olympic and Paralympic games.
She said: “We are going to help attendees be clear and concise, whilst becoming confident in networking. Clarity, new ideas and a sense of what you do, can easily be lost if it is not communicated properly. We want organisations to know their resources and get across their unique selling points.”
The session is open to all, however social enterprises and charities, may find it particularly useful as they are facing an increase in activity. Sometimes these organisations can get distracted from their message. One common mistake is diverting from what they know best, spreading themselves too thinly and missing goals.
One attendee said: “Hopefully the session will give me the confidence to find my ‘authentic voice’. I currently only use my website, promotional leaflets, presentation and one-to-one talks to promote my business.”
Speaker Toby Buckle has a wealth of knowledge from working with organisations across the UK and internationally developing leaders through executive coaching and leadership training. His clients include social enterprises such as National Geographic, prison service and the NHS; and charities such as Muscular Dystrophy and Save the Children.
Becky Cheney, from construction and property consultants Robinson Low Francis, said: “We are always looking for the most effective way to say who we are and what we do. We are hoping to take information back to the office and use it as part of future sales tools.”
Communication is key to selling your brand and that’s not just your logo, it’s everything you stand for and do. Every business has a story, and the trick is remembering to only include the relevant bits so that you are being effectively heard.
So if you don't know how to tell people what your business, your role or your objectives are then you need to come to this session.
